Organizers of an “uncommitted delegates” protest vote against President Joe Biden’s handling of the war in Gaza are celebrating the placement of two delegates at the Democratic National Convention taking place this summer in Chicago.

The Democratic Socialist of America-aligned Uncommitted WA group, part of a nationwide effort to encourage Democrats across the country to withhold their votes from Biden in state primaries, say nearly 90,000 Democratic voters statewide submitted ballots for “uncommitted delegates” in Washington’s March primary, earning almost 10% of the party’s vote.

“With 25,950 votes for Uncommitted Delegates in King County, the campaign earned 16.33% of the vote in Congressional District 7, gaining them two Uncommitted delegates for the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in August,” the organization said.

The remainder of the state’s 92 delegates will be committed to Biden as the incumbent claimed 83% of the state’s Democratic primary vote.

The two Washington delegates will join the few from other states from by the protest effort in what will be mostly a symbolic stand unlikely to slow Biden’s efforts for a second term.

CHS reported here on the uncommitted effort in Washington. Local Republicans faced no such quandaries in selecting Donald Trump. Their state party leadership opted not to include the uncommitted option on the Washington 2024 Republican roster.

“We will continue to advocate for Palestinian rights and Palestinian life at the Democratic National Convention and all the way through November,” Rami Al-Kabra, Burien mayor and spokesperson for Uncommitted Washington, said in a statement.”The results are great, but we don’t feel like we can truly celebrate while our tax dollars indiscriminately kill thousands of innocent people and traumatize millions more. Until this stops, our work isn’t over.”
